Professor Opoku-Agyemang reportedly fell ill after work on Friday, March 28, 2025, and was receiving medical attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC). A statement from the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Sunday, March 30, 2025, revealed that medical professionals had advised her to seek further treatment abroad as a precautionary measure.

News of her illness quickly spread across social media, sparking concern among Ghanaians. Many expressed their prayers and well wishes for her full recovery, emphasizing the need for comprehensive medical care.
Providing the latest update, Eric Adjei, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), reassured the public that everything was under control. In a Facebook post, Adjei, who also served as her deputy spokesperson during the 2024 election campaign, shared a photo of himself with Professor Opoku-Agyemang and confirmed that she was in good health.
“Our mother, the vice president, is in good health, thanks to God's grace. I've received updates from the team, and Mum is doing very well by His grace,” he stated.
