South Dayi MP raises concerns over Afenyo-Markin’s leadership, calling for a more inclusive approach |
According to Dafeamekpor, Afenyo-Markin’s leadership style has remained largely unchanged since his time as Majority Leader, leading to growing discontent among MPs. He noted that similar concerns were raised about Afenyo-Markin’s tactics when he led the Majority Caucus, and these concerns persist despite his new position as Minority Leader.

Speaking on Channel One TV on April 3, Dafeamekpor accused Afenyo-Markin of frequently holding press conferences, exaggerating parliamentary issues, and staging unnecessary walkouts, even on matters initiated by his own side.
“We all are [concerned] because he is not the first Minority Leader we’ve had in this country, and he has been a Majority Leader before. We had cause to complain about his style as a Majority Leader, and now, four months down the line, he’s found himself on the other side of the aisle,” Dafeamekpor stated.
The South Dayi MP recalled that during Afenyo-Markin’s tenure as Majority Leader, he often engaged in media dramatization and took parliamentary matters to court.
“You recall how as Majority Leader, he was always holding press conferences even though he was in government. He would take matters to court and dramatize, and with the slightest matter on the floor, they would walk out—sometimes on their own business,” he added.
With Parliament currently on recess, Dafeamekpor expressed hope that Afenyo-Markin would use the period to reassess his leadership and adopt a more effective approach when Parliament resumes.
“We believe that this recess will offer him the opportunity to review his performance between January and the end of March and see whether there will be opportunities for him to mend the way he handles matters on the floor and also amend the way he conducts affairs among his people and between his people and us,” he noted.
As Parliament prepares to reconvene, all eyes will be on Afenyo-Markin’s response to these concerns and whether he will adjust his leadership style to foster greater collaboration between the Minority and Majority caucuses.
