Assin South MP Ntim Fordjour Thanks Dr. Bawumia After Alleged Political Harassment By NIB Operatives

MP claims NDC government is targeting opposition voices ahead of 2025 elections

Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has expressed gratitude to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his show of support following an alleged politically motivated attempt to harass and intimidate him.

harassment by NIB officers.

According to reports, operatives of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) stormed the MP’s residence on Wednesday, April 9, in what he described as a targeted raid intended to suppress his parliamentary oversight duties. The MP serves as the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee.

The situation escalated quickly but was interrupted by members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), who intervened and reportedly thwarted the NIB operation.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the incident, Ntim Fordjour accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of orchestrating the move as a tactic to silence opposition lawmakers.

“Thank you very much HE Dr Mahamudu Bawumia @MBawumia for the visit to my residence this evening following the politically-motivated lawless act of harassment in the attempt of the NDC government to gag MPs from exercising their legitimate oversight,” he posted.

This incident adds to growing concerns of political intimidation and suppression of dissent, especially as the country inches closer to the 2025 general elections.

Rev. Fordjour had recently called for investigations into two foreign aircraft that landed in Ghana, alleging money laundering and drug trafficking. The government has dismissed his claims, saying the aircraft had experienced technical issues and landed for legitimate reasons.

With accusations of harassment and rising political tension between the NPP and NDC, this latest incident is likely to fuel ongoing debates around transparency, abuse of state security apparatus, and election-year governance in Ghana.
