According to Collins Manu, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti ECG, this is not an isolated incident. “We’ve recorded over 133 deaths related to cable theft since 2014,” he revealed in an interview with TV3 and in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Cable theft is more than just an illegal act; it's a reckless gamble with life and a direct attack on communities that rely on stable electricity,” he warned.

Manu emphasized the economic and social cost of such acts, pointing out that every stolen cable means entire neighborhoods are thrown into darkness, and critical services — including hospitals, schools, and businesses — are left paralyzed.

“Each incident burdens ECG and taxpayers with millions in repair costs and slows down national development,” he lamented.

In the wake of this incident, the ECG is urging Ghanaians to stay alert and report suspicious activity near electrical infrastructure.

“Community vigilance can save lives and protect our essential services,” Manu stressed.

🛑 Cable theft is not worth the risk. One wrong move can cost a life—and leave thousands in darkness.
