MC Yaa Yeboah Slams Bishop Dag Heward-Mills Over Church Musician Payment Controversy

/ “If Your Pastor Says You Don’t Deserve Pay, Run With Speed” – Yeboah Fires Back on United Showbiz

shouldn’t expect payment.

Her passionate remarks came during a panel discussion on the April 19, 2025 edition of United Showbiz, in response to a viral video where the Lighthouse Chapel International founder referred to paying musicians in church as "absolute nonsense."

Yeboah argued that while some musicians may serve out of spiritual devotion, skilled instrumentalists who dedicate years to perfecting their craft deserve fair compensation.

“If you're an instrumentalist giving your time and your pastor tells you you're not important and don't deserve pay—run away with the speed of alacrity,” she stated emphatically.

She also challenged the double standard within some churches where pastors live comfortably while musicians are expected to volunteer indefinitely.

“There are churches where pastors don’t pay rent, school fees, or even buy their food. The church handles everything. So why should musicians starve?” she asked.

MC Yaa Yeboah further highlighted what she views as the commercialisation of religion, noting that many pastors operate churches as business enterprises rather than spiritual institutions.

She pointed to countries like Rwanda, where pastors are now required to have a formal job before entering ministry, to ensure financial accountability.

“If the Ghana Revenue Authority audited churches, they’d find many pastors whose only ‘job’ is church work,” she concluded.
