During the April 19, 2025 edition of United Showbiz, Yaa Yeboah fiercely criticized Medikal’s decision, labeling it “disrespectful and ignorant.”

“What kind of nonsense is this? The ignorance in the industry is too much,” she exclaimed.
“Assuming Medikal had just explained or asked permission from Alabaster Box, I’m sure they would have forgiven him. But he chose the wrong route.”

Rather than offering an apology or clarification, Medikal reportedly had the video taken down from YouTube, a move many, including Yaa Yeboah, believe shows a lack of accountability.

Adding fuel to the fire, Criss Waddle, who is known to be close to Medikal, jumped into the controversy by defending Medikal and criticizing Alabaster Box via social media.

MC Yaa Yeboah called Waddle’s comments “utterly disrespectful” and questioned his role in the situation.

“Criss Waddle, sitting comfortably behind his phone to defend this, is part of the problem. If he had the creativity, why didn’t he come up with a song like ‘Akwaaba’ himself?” she said sharply.

This incident echoes past controversies in Ghana’s music industry, such as Mr. Drew’s sampling of Rotimi’s song, highlighting what some say is an ongoing disregard for copyright laws and intellectual property rights.

Neither Medikal nor his management team has officially responded to the accusations or issued an apology at the time of reporting. Fans and music rights activists are closely watching to see whether legal action or a public apology will follow.

Should artists like Medikal face harsher consequences for unauthorized sampling? Or is this a misunderstanding that could have been settled amicably?
