NDC’s Ibrahim Ali Threatens Resignation If Assin South MP Ntim Fordjour Is Not Arrested Over Alleged Drug Links

A prominent communicator for Ghana’s opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ibrahim Ali, has issued a dramatic ultimatum, vowing to resign from the party if the government fails to arrest the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, over alleged drug trafficking suspicions.

Speaking on Neat FM on Friday, April 11, 2025, Ibrahim Ali alleged that he had received credible intelligence — both from within the party and from National Security sources — suggesting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker is on the verge of being arrested. He insists the arrest must occur within the week or he will step down from his role within the NDC's communications structure.

“If we fail to invite, arrest and detain Ntim Fordjour within next week, I will resign as a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team,” Ali declared live on air.
“I am repeating it — based on the intelligence I’ve picked up within our party and the National Security, if this man is not invited or arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and put behind bars, I will step down.”

Ali's bold challenge comes in the wake of swirling accusations of drug trafficking implicating the Assin South MP, a charge that has not been officially substantiated but has dominated Ghanaian political discussions in recent days.

Clearly frustrated by what he sees as a lack of decisive action, Ibrahim Ali pressed the government to pursue swift justice. He argued that the alleged involvement of Ntim Fordjour in illicit activity, if proven, should result in a prompt arrest to serve as a warning to other MPs who make reckless or unsubstantiated accusations in Parliament.

“He is tickling himself and laughing. But by hook or crook, next week, whatever means we must use to get him arrested to teach him a lesson, we’ll do it. This should be a deterrent to any MP who thinks they can speak without facts,” he emphasized.

The controversy deepened earlier this week when officials from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) reportedly arrived at Rev Ntim Fordjour’s residence on April 9, 2025, in an effort to execute an arrest warrant. According to government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the MP refused to cooperate, resulting in a tense standoff.

“NIB officials are currently at Ntim Fordjour’s residence. They have an arrest warrant. He is refusing to cooperate. They have given him time to cooperate, failing which they will act,” Kwakye Ofosu confirmed during a press briefing.

The government has yet to issue an official statement outlining the specific nature of the allegations or confirming whether a formal investigation is underway.

While the exact source of the drug trafficking claims remains unclear, insiders suggest that the accusations may stem from internal party intelligence and investigative leads currently being handled by security agencies. However, as of this report, no formal charges have been filed against Rev John Ntim Fordjour.

The situation has stirred intense debate within Ghana’s political space, raising concerns about due process, political witch-hunts, and the weaponization of intelligence for partisan gain.

📣 Public Reaction and Political Fallout

The situation has garnered significant attention on social media and in the press, with many Ghanaians calling for transparency and due process. Supporters of the NDC have applauded Ibrahim Ali’s stance as one of principled integrity, while critics argue it could be a politically charged move designed to embarrass the ruling NPP.

Meanwhile, Rev Ntim Fordjour remains at the center of the storm, with public pressure mounting for him to clear his name or face legal consequences if evidence against him is indeed credible.

As the nation watches closely, the coming week could prove critical. Will the NIB act on the warrant? Will Ibrahim Ali carry out his resignation if the arrest does not happen? And most importantly — will the truth come to light?
