Zabzugu, Northern Region – A violent protest erupted in Zabzugu, Northern Region, resulting in one fatality and two serious injuries. The unrest, which stemmed from opposition to the President's nomination of Daniel Lakob Tanei as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), escalated into deadly violence.

The protestors, largely youth from the area, expressed their strong disapproval of the MCE nomination, blocking key roads and threatening to destroy government properties and party assets. The situation quickly spiraled out of control when the youth regrouped outside the town and resorted to gunfire and harassment of passersby.

The most tragic incident occurred when a man riding a motorbike, accompanied by two women — one of whom was seven to eight months pregnant — was stopped by the protestors. After the man refused to comply with their demands, the protestors opened fire, tragically killing the pregnant woman and injuring both the motorbike rider and the second woman.
The deceased has been taken to the Yendi Hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at Zabzugu Hospital. Security forces swiftly intervened during the protests, but tensions remain high in the area. Authorities have heightened security in the region to prevent further violence and any potential reprisals.
