Reports suggest that the altercation on Monday evening was the result of long-standing tensions between the two groups.
According to Mohamed Osman, an eyewitness who spoke to Adom News, disputes had existed between the groups before the Ramadan fasting period.
“There were rumours of a possible confrontation about three days before the carnival. Elders in the community tried to mediate and advised both groups to exercise restraint, but unfortunately, one group ignored the warning and started the violence,” Osman explained.
