/ A late-night inferno at Madina Redco Flats leaves one dead, over 150 homes and businesses destroyed, and dozens displaced.
A devastating fire broke out at Madina Redco Flats around 11:15 p.m. last night, engulfing over 150 structures and tragically claiming the life of a young Nigerian woman named Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread with alarming speed, ripping through 140 wooden kiosks and 20 metal containers used for both residential and commercial purposes.
The Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly, with the Madina Fire Station arriving within just two minutes. Additional backup teams from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and Headquarters joined the intense firefighting effort.
Despite their coordinated response, the fire had already reached an advanced stage before containment efforts began. The blaze was finally brought under control by 12:02 a.m. and fully extinguished by 2:22 a.m.
The heartbreaking highlight of the tragedy was the death of a young woman identified only as Beauty. Trapped within one of the burning structures, she was unable to escape. Her charred remains were later retrieved and handed over to Madina Police for further investigation and preservation.
As daylight broke, scenes of devastation greeted residents and business owners—charred ruins, scorched goods, and shattered dreams. Authorities are currently assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the fire.
Local leaders have called for emergency relief and temporary shelter for the hundreds left homeless and displaced by the inferno.
